Wega Nery Gomes Pinto (Corumbá, MT, Brazil, 1912 - Guarujá, SP, Brazil, 2007)

Painter, designer, poet and teacher.  In the 1930s, she published poems in the magazine O Malho (a Parnassus Female), as "Vera Nunes".  From 1946 to 1949, she studied drawing and painting at the School of Fine Arts in São Paulo.  In the 1950s, she had classes with Joaquim da Rocha Ferreira (1900-1965) and Yoshiya Takaoka (1909-1978), with whom she participated in the Guanabara Group (1950-1959), a group of plastic artists.  In 1953, she studied the Atelier-Abstraction of Samson Flexor (1907-1971), and produced her first abstract paintings, with geometric trend.  In 1955, she exhibited drawings at the Art Museum of São Paulo (MASP).  She participated in various exhibitions of the International Biennial of São Paulo, being awarded  Best National Artist in 1957 and receiving a special exhibition room in 1963, 1973 and 1989.  Also in 1963, she taught drawing a   ...  [Displaying 1000 of 1732 characters.]  Artist bio
